Energy Workshops

Tuesday 12th November 2024, 12pm-3pm

Otley Social Club

Come and join us to learn about how you could reduce your energy bills and carbon footprint. â€‹We will have stalls from experts including:

  • Groundwork’s Green Doctors who will be giving advice on how to improve the energy efficiency of your home

  • West Yorkshire Combined Authority who will share details on what programmes and funding there are available to home owners for insulation and solar

  • An opportunity to make your own draft excluder

We will also have food, cooked by our amazing Community Larder volunteers – this will be available on a ‘pay as you feel’ basis. The first 100 visitors will also receive a free light bulb.

There is no need to book, just turn up on the day.

Citizens' Assembly

We want to hear from a diverse range of local people on their priorities for where they live. At these sessions you will have the chance to meet local experts on topics including:

transport, housing, energy, nature, Youth and education, business and retail, food, social justice, and climate change.

You will then work with other attendees to develop priorities for Weston. We can then take these to the Council and other potential funders to hopefully get support for more projects.

This series of workshops will take place in January and February 2025 at Weston Lane Juniors Football Club.

If you would like to sign up, please take the survey above and when asked indicate that you'd like to be involved.

Planting

Over the course of 2024, we have or will plant the following to help improve nature and make pleasant spaces for local people:

  • Wildflower meadow and flower beds at Weston Lane Juniors FC. With a beautiful board designed by pupils from Ashfield School and a bench donated by Otley Coop Funeral Care.

  • Wildflowers, fruit trees, and planters at Otley Social Club.

  • Wildflowers and fruit trees around Weston Play Park to support the Friends of Weston Play Park in their attempts to improve the space.

Solar

In August 2024 solar panels were installed by Leeds Solar on Weston Lane Juniors Football Club and Otley Social Club.

The electricity produced by these panels will cut carbon emissions and reduce costs for both venues; the money saved will in turn benefit the clubs and the community.
